Bad news, “Sprina” fans. Although when Nicholas Alexander Chavez exited General Hospital in January to star in Season 2 of Ryan Murphy’s Monster limited series, it was with the understanding that he would return once filming wrapped to raise Spencer Cassadine from his watery “grave.” Now our sister site TVLine reports that multiple sources have confirmed that the actor is, in fact, gone for good. (General Hospital declined to comment to the website, and Chavez’s rep had not as of this writing responded to a request for comment.)

Upon joining the ABC soap in 2021, the newcomer was an immediate hit. Though the daytime drama was his first real acting job — nice way to start your IMDb page, eh? — he knocked it out of the park, striking up enviable chemistry with leading ladies Sydney Mikayla and Tatyana Ali and helping to turn Spencer and sweetheart Trina Robinson into supercouple gold.

When Chavez was cast over the summer of 2023 in Season 2 of Monster — which will follow the case of Lyle and Erik Menendez, the brothers accused of murdering their parents in 1989 — he was expected to wing his back to Port Charles. A spokesperson for the soap even said at the time, “We support Nicholas’ endeavors and look forward to having him return to General Hospital once this project is wrapped.”

Alas, now it’s not gonna happen. No word yet on whether the show is going to recast Spencer again to reunite him with Trina or leave Nikolas and Courtney’s son swimming with the fishes.
