Young & Restless Shake-’n’-Break-Up? Jack and Diane’s Fake Split Promises Real Consequences: ‘There’s a Price to Pay’

At the moment, The Young and the Restless’ Jack and Diane are busy patting themselves on the back for the way that their kooky scheme to “save” Kyle worked. But what they don’t realize as they take their victory lap is that repairing their relationship with their son may have seriously damaged their own relationship.

You’ll recall that to sell the bitter split, Jack held nothing back, accusing Diane of being the self-serving gold digger about whom everyone had tried to warn him. He didn’t mean the harsh words, of course, but… “Jack said some things that, wow,” Peter Bergman tells Soap Opera Digest. “I mean, he just went a big step too far in letting the world know that he has big questions about Diane, and I think there’s a price to pay for that.”

The couple is happily canoodling these days, but beneath their delight in being reunited, the groundwork has been laid for heartache down the road. In the back of Diane’s mind, she’ll always hear an echo of Jack shouting those terrible things at her… and a part of her will have no choice but to wonder if a part of him meant what he said. If insecurity gets the best of Diane, even this new and improved version of the reformed supervixen might act out.

Previously, Bergman admitted to Soaps.com that his character “would be foolish to trust her completely after everything they went through. But Jack is a man who loves deeply and with all his heart. He is also a man who, like John before him, believes that family is the most important thing. So of course, he is drawn to the idea of the Abbotts being one big, happy family again, which means believing that Diane has changed… even if some think he’s naive for doing so.

“Should he find out that he was duped again,” he adds, “it would be devastating.”
