In a downright terrifying twist, it looks as if The Young and the Restless‘ most innocent character has been caught up in the wicked web that’s been spun ever since Jordan first arrived on the scene. As a result, Summer and Kyle are being drawn into a situation that they could never have imagined when little Harrison goes missing.
“This is their worst fear come to life,” sums up Michael Mealor in our exclusive chat with Kyle’s portrayer and his on-screen ex-wife, Allison Lanier (Summer). Making things even more complicated is that it appears as if Claire is responsible for the kidnapping. Might she have been faking her estrangement from Jordan all along while secretly operating to forward the madwoman’s agenda?
That certainly would not surprise Summer, who from the start wasn’t thrilled with the notion of Claire spending time with Harrison. “Summer’s being the logical one, out of everyone,” admits Mealor. Summer has, after all, suggested that it might not be the best idea “to let someone who was kidnapped for 20-some-odd years and in a mental hospital for a little bit of time take care of our lovely little son right off the bat!”
For her part, Lanier says that “Summer is angry at Kyle!” Yes, they’ll have to work together in order to get through this crisis, “but there is a lot of anger there!” (Check out their entire video chat below!)
Kyle has long believed himself to be a good father to Harrison, but this situation might leave him questioning not only his parenting skills but also his judgment. “Summer is obviously blaming Kyle,” acknowledges Mealor. “He’s the one who let the ‘wolf’ through the front door, at least the way it seems.”
Ah, and therein lies the rub. Because while there’s an obvious conclusion to which the Abbott family can jump, there’s clearly much more to the story than any of them know. By week’s end, the Newman clan will be drawn into the fray which will only further complicate matters, not to mention dial up the danger factor.
Will Summer and Kyle ultimately be able to work through their issues in order to get through this horrific situation? “They’re looking at it two completely different ways,” previews Mealor, “but we’re trying to decide, ‘What’s the best route to take in order to get our son home?’ Because that’s what’s most important!”
