April 28 is going to be a special day for Laura Wright: It marks the seventh anniversary of her first date with real-life love Wes Ramsey.
How Did They Meet?
The couple first entered one another’s orbit back in the early 2000s when they were both starring on Guiding Light — her as Reva Shayne’s sister Cassie Layne, him as Olivia Spencer’s brother Sam. “I was smitten,” he told Michael Fairman TV in 2018, “but I had to keep it to myself,” as his crush was not only married, she was expecting her second child with her husband.
“But we laughed,” he added, “and had great conversations.”
How Did They Get Together?
In 2017, when Wright was already a decade-plus into her General Hospital run as Carly Corinthos and her marriage had come to an end, Daytime Emmy weekend led to a chance encounter between the former co-stars. “What seemed to the outside world as a coincidence of circumstance — running in to each other at a party… — I knew instantly in that moment that my life as I knew it was shifting,” said Ramsey in 2021. “When I use words like fate or destiny, I think of that night.”
When Did They Fall in Love?
With a belly full of butterflies, Ramsey mustered up the courage to call Wright to take her out for the night on the town to which she had agreed. Suffice it to say, it went well. “We laughed and fell madly in love in a magical and instantaneous kind of way,” Ramsey marveled. “We saw live theater, reminisced, courted one another with romance and honesty… and kept smiling and laughing into the night.
“I knew my life would never be the same again,” he added, “and I’m a better man for it.”
How Did Her Ex React?
During an episode of State of Mind, Wright shared that when she and architect John Wright first split after 11 years of marriage, she surrendered to “superficial anger… blame… I was very much in a victim state of mind.” But Glennon Doyle’s book Love Warrior “broke my heart open” and helped her become such good friends with her former husband that they celebrated daughter Lauren’s high-school graduation weekend with Ramsey and the kids. No drama there.
How Did He Wind Up on General Hospital?
A segment of the General Hospital audience assumed that Wright had gotten her boyfriend cast as villainous Peter August the same year that they got together. But it simply isn’t so. “It’s a role that he worked all on his own for,” Wright told Michael Fairman TV. “He had to screen-test against eight-plus guys, three different auditions, two different days.”
Are They Getting Married?
In 2021, a fan asked Wright during an Instagram Live chat when she and Ramsey were going to make it official. “I can’t tell you,” the actress replied. “Right now, we’re good. Life is good. We don’t really feel the need to… It’s not calling us.”
And why would it be? A piece of paper couldn’t possibly make their romance any sweeter. “We love our life,” she continued, “and life is good.”
Do They Have Any Kids?
Wright has two children with her ex, Lauren, who in 2021 graduated from Cal Poly with a bachelor of science in journalism with a concentration in public relations and a minor in ethics studies, and John, who two years later earned a degree in construction management from Colorado State U. Wright also has a “baby” with Ramsey: Kimba, a mini goldendoodle. On Valentine’s Day 2021, Ramsey Instagrammed his joy at being able to “celebrate the love of two special girls,” Wright and Kimba. “You are both my sweet, miraculous angels, and it is the great honor of my life to love and protect you both.”
