On Wednesday, Deadliest Catch stars are asking fans to pray for the crew of the crab boat the F/V Scandies Rose. As people around the world were celebrating the New Year and decade, the fishing vessel sank in the Gulf of Alaska. What do we know now?

The F/V Scandies Rose Sinking Details

Deadliest Catch fans know that crab fishermen have one of the most dangerous jobs in the world. On Wednesday, we are reminded of their danger with the latest news out of the Bering Sea.

The F/V Scandies Rose, a crab fishing boat based out of Dutch Harbor sank on Tuesday night, about 10 p.m., with seven crew members onboard. According to KUCB, the U.S. Coast Guard is still searching for five crew members near Sutwik Island. This is off of the Alaska Peninsula. They report that the boat’s last location was 170 miles southwest of Air Station Kodiak.

Two members of the crew were found on a life raft, and both are in stable condition, being treated at a Kodiak hospital. According to the Coast Guard spokesperson, Melissa McKenzie, they actually found two life rafts. The two rescued crew members were on one life raft, while the other was empty.

“From what I understand, when our helicopter crew arrived on scene, they found two life rafts in the search area. One had two survivors [in it] and the other one was empty.”

The United States Coast Guard received a Mayday call at approximately 10:00 p.m. on Tuesday evening. They immediately sent out team members to search the area and to rescue the crew. Rescuing the crew is their primary focus. After the search and rescue part of their mission is complete, they will then try to determine the cause of the sinking.

Deadliest Catch Stars Ask Fans To Pray

Deadliest Catch stars are asking for fans to pray for the crew of the F/V Scandies Rose. God Help them please!”

Captain Keith Colburn of the F/V Wizard posted on Twitter: “Praying for the crew of the F/V Scandies Rose and all those who know and love them.”

The F/V Destination Sunk In 2017

On February 11, 2017, The F/V Destination sunk in the Bering Sea. This was a catastrophic incident, with every person on that boat perishing. The members of the crew included: Captain Jeff Hathaway, Larry O’Grady, Charles Glenn Jones, Raymond J. Vincler, Kai Hamik and Darrik Seibold. This incident was devastating to the fleet, as everyone knows each other. This includes Deadliest Catch star Keith Colburn, who was a very good friend of Captain Jeff.

There was very little information on what actually occurred to cause such a catastrophic incident. After much investigation of the wreckage and other information including weather, TV Shows Ace reported that investigators could piece together the most likely scenario of how this tragedy occurred. On February 8, 2017, the crab boat left Sand Point for Dutch. This was at 10 a.m., arriving to Dutch on February 9 in the early evening. Just a few hours later, the crab boat was off again, this time, headed towards S. George Island.

Investigators noted that there would have been building ice, but based on the timing of the events, it did not appear that the boat slowed down to remove the the ice., which can make the boat very top heavy. On February 11, at 6:13 a.m. an emergency signal alerted the Coast Guard to the sinking. The believe that at 6:12 a.m., the boat made a full pirouette, “turning completely around.”

Story Still In Progress

Just one year ago, on January 9, TV Shows Ace reported on the F/V Mary B II that was seen on Deadliest Catch: Dungeon Cove. The boat flipped over, killing three crew members. The boat had asked for an escort by the U.S. Coast Guard, but high waves and a very precarious situation prevented the crew from being saved.

As for the F/V Scandies Rose, more information on this story is forthcoming. Please check back with TV Shows Ace for all the latest with the F/V Scandies Rose and other Deadliest Catch news. The Deadliest Catch will return to Discovery sometime in the spring.
