Nightmare at Sea: Deadliest Catch Captain Shaken After 15lb Hook Almost Kills Crew!
Deadliest Catch’s Jake Anderson is back on season 19 this year. Though he’s now teaching other captains how to fish for crab, he once fretted that his boat, The Saga, was “falling apart” during season 13. Crew members had to make temporary repairs by climbing up ladders as the boat was battered by the waves of the Bering Sea.
One crew member admits being “scared of heights and water” as he removes a broken sodium light from the top of the F/V Saga. The crew averted a potential disaster by removing the light. But, there was more to come in Deadliest Catch season 13 including a fire on board and a solid steel hook flying through the air during a night fishing haul.

Deadliest Catch welcomed Jake Anderson to its cast in 2007.
Eight years later he became the captain of the F/V Saga and he’s still captain of the ship today.
However, the Saga hasn’t come without its issues causing lots of hurdles for Jake and his crew over the past eight years.
Deadliest Catch star witnesses near-death accident
Jake and his crew were scouring the Bering Sea for $200,000 worth of crab in season 13’s ‘Bad Moon’ episode 6.
Fishing all through the day and night, and battling the Saga’s continuous problems proved difficult for everyone, including the captain.
The Saga was also out of action during episode 3 when toxic smoke filled the boat. Jake had to arrange for repairs to be made to the ship before he could move forward with the season.
The crew also noticed bin boards on the boat weren’t fixed correctly causing some of the crab to get damaged.
Another terrifying moment for the captain came when he witnessed a near-death accident during Deadliest Catch.
A hook comes loose and flies across the boat causing all the crew members to dive to the floor.
Jake confirmed his crew members including Hannes and Dean were OK after everyone jumped out of the way of the hook. Jake said when they were picking up the pot, a heavy steel picking hook got caught on an opening and the tension caused it to bend and fly off.
He added: “That would’ve killed somebody. Dean, he almost died.”
Jake, clearly shaken by the incident, continued: “That’ll wake you up. That’s for sure, woah.”
