When Days of Our Lives announced that Steve Burton would be returning to the show early next year, we couldn’t help wondering if perhaps this meant that news regarding Kristian Alfonso and Peter Reckell would soon follow as Bo and Hope. Why? Well, when last we saw Burton’s Harris and Alfonso’s Hope on Beyond Salem, the stage had clearly been set for a potential future storyline… which would also include Reckell’s Bo.

For those who didn’t watch Beyond Salem — which is still available on Peacock, where Days of Our Lives now streams — let us explain. You see, over on the spinoff, Burton’s Harris had romanced Alfonso’s Hope. In reality, the pair were playing a potentially deadly game of cat-and-mouse, as he’d been hired by Stefano DiMera’s daughter, Megan, to woo Hope and steal from her a prism.

Although Harris was a bad guy, he’d truly fallen for Hope. In their final scenes together, it was implied that maybe, just maybe, he might be redeemed and get another shot with Bo’s widow. Oh, and by the way, in the final moments of the mini-series, it appeared Megan had managed to bring Bo back to life!

So as we said, when news came down that Burton would be returning to Days, it seemed like a no-brainer that his co-stars might soon follow. Sure, upon exiting in 2020, Alfonso seemed to make it pretty clear she wouldn’t be back. “I don’t plan on returning and popping in as others have done in the past,” she said at the time. “I think that chapter has closed and a new one needs to be started.”

But hey, people change their minds all the time, right? And besides, our mothers taught us that it’s rude to look a gift horse in the mouth.

No word yet on exactly when Alfonso and Reckell will be seen on screen, or for how long. But at the Day of Days event, they were seen in a video explaining their return. “We’re sorry we couldn’t be there,” said Reckell.

“But, OK, we wanted all of you to be the first to know that we are back,” said Alfonso, turning things back over to Reckell so he could finish, “taping here at the studio,” taping something “extremely special.”

“We appreciate you every day,” concluded Alfonso, “and for all of the years that you’ve supported Days of Our Lives and Bo and Hope.”

Also returning, as seen in a video teasing upcoming storylines, is Victoria Konefal’s Ciara. Of course, the big question is what that means for Ben, given that his portrayer, Robert Scott Wilson, is currently playing Alex!
