Well, well, well… It looks like the DiMeras are once again going to escape the consequences of their bad behavior on Days of Our Lives. That hasn’t really been in doubt for the viewers of course. They always get off with, at most, a slap on the wrist. The how EJ and Kristen would get out of their current kidnapping pickle, though, was where we were getting stuck.

But then, Thursday’s episode laid it all out for us — even if we didn’t realize it! Granted, things look especially bad for Kristen now that Brady and Steve have found and are rescuing Ava.

Ava’s got to take the Blakes down now, right? Wrong. Because by setting it up that little Rachel was behind Ava’s kidnapping (with more than a healthy dose of pushing by her grandmother) and that Child Protective Services is looking for just one more infraction to take the kid from her parents forever, we can see where this is going.

Days In the Blake house in Aremid, Brady removes the gag from Ava's mouth

Brady will, quite reluctantly, beg Ava not to say anything, or he’ll lose his daughter. He may even promise to send Rachel away for some intensive mental health help so that nothing like this ever happens again. And in the end, Ava, even more reluctantly, will go along with it. But that won’t just get little Rachel off the hook, it’ll get her mom and grandmother off scot-free too.

That, though, could be a boon for her, as Ava would have something to hold over Kristen’s head forever now. We’d say Rachel bonking Ava over the head and kidnapping her might be a huge red flag to run away from Brady and his sociopath daughter, but John eventually got past Sami trying to sell Belle and Roman got past Lucas holding Sami hostage. So why not make this work?

Rachel’s got youth on her side and the hope that she can get help and grow out of this Machiavellian phase. Ava could still move forward with her relationship with Brady while keeping the kidnapping in her back pocket to force Kristen to play nice!

EJ escaping consequences is likely a bit less clever. We don’t see Rafe keeping his mouth shut to protect, well, anyone. In fact, if we’d have to guess, we’d say EJ is just going to rely on some of the standard Rolf magic. That vial Kristen got her hands on is likely the memory erasing serum the DiMeras break out every now and then. EJ can inject that into Rafe, wipe out his memory of the past couple months and move on.

He’d just have to take care of Arnold, by either paying him off or killing him for real this time. Once he’s gone, Rafe could get back to his life, horrified at the things he’d supposedly done that he has no memory of. Maybe the memory loss would have folks suspecting EJ had him brainwashed to act as he did, but there’d be no proof. It could just as likely have been lingering effects from his coma.

And since no one else knows Arnold is still alive (if he even is by then), they’d have no reason to suspect a double had been running around.

No memory, no proof — at most, they may get EJ on fabricating evidence. To be clear, that’s incredibly wrong, but it’s not on the same level as kidnapping and hostage-holding. That’s probably low enough on the Salem crime totem pole for him to use his DiMera resources to stay out of jail. But don’t worry too much. Because something far worse is coming EJ’s way…
