On today’s Days of Our Lives, Brady answers the phone from Ava, hoping it was the police with an update. No word on Rachel yet, they’re just waiting at the DiMera estate. She sympathizes and when he thanks her, saying he’s grateful for the call, Kristen walks in. “That makes one of us.”
She launches into a tirade about “schmoozing” with Ava instead of searching for their daughter. She’s not involved, so she should stay the hell away. Plus, she’s the reason Rachel ran away and the reason Kristen and Brady aren’t getting back together. “No, there’s a million reasons,” Brady tells her.
And all Rachel’s problems go a lot deeper than just Ava. Kristen relents a bit, admitting she’s on edge — Rachel’s been gone 24 hours. Kristen can’t help but recall the last time, when Sarah ran off with Rachel as a baby. Brady assures Kristen that this time, Rachel ran away. She probably can’t “charter a jet to Paris.”
Kristen can’t help but shake the feeling that she’ll never see her daughter again. Rachel’s just a child, out there all alone. Brady assures her Rachel is fine, and the world needs to watch out for her. They both agree that they need to try to get some sleep to be rested for when she returns. They hug and Brady heads out.
Back at the Bistro, Sophia asks Ava for an extra shift since she moved her schedule around to go to her doctor appointment early. That’s when Amy bursts in, “So why am I only hearing about this now?” Sophia was supposed to meet her at the hospital an hour ago and her mom talked to Kayla to find out she changed the appointment.
Sophia says she didn’t need the stress, and Tate was there, which Amy begrudgingly likes. But she still calls Sophia immature and irresponsible, so she will be taking Sophia to her appointments. Ava steps in suggesting Sophia can at least tell Amy how the OB appointment went. Everything looks good and she’s healthy. She shows her mom the sonogram, who gets emotional. “That’s my grandchild.”
She relents a bit, telling Sophia she’s just trying to look out for her. Sophia nervously brings up adoption. That just sets Amy off again about how they’re still trying to dispose of the baby again. Ava gets brushed aside as she tries keeping the peace and Sophia realizes after some back and forth, “Wow, OK, so the baby is a punishment for me.” Whatever, there’s no adoption happening. Period.
“Don’t you think we should have some say in this?” Sophia asks. No, she’s a child, and Amy makes her decisions. And she won’t be raising the baby alone, the family will help. But she probably won’t be able to go to college now. Sophia flips out, telling her mom she’s making her miserable and ruining her life, then runs off.
Amy is about to give Sophia a piece of her mind, but Ava stops her to talk. “Maybe it would help to try to see things from her point of view.” She doesn’t need to imagine. She’s a sinner like everyone else. And she can tell Ava’s beliefs are different than hers, so tread lightly.
Ava just points out that Sophia’s overwhelmed and scared about what this means for her — and Tate’s — future. They aren’t ready to be parents and maybe putting the baby up for adoption is what’s best for everyone. Amy snaps that it’s none of Ava’s business and leaves.
Belle checks in with Shawn at the SPD — so far, no lead on Rachel. She asks if she can help, but Shawn says they’ve got it covered. Belle’s just heartbroken for her niece and brother, but as she’s telling Shawn, he gets a call from JJ. “Oh, no.” A little girl was hit by a car and is unconscious… And her description matches Rachel’s.
He tells Belle to hold off on calling Brady until they know and both head to the ER where they learn it’s not Rachel. Belle and Shawn gratefully hug.
Back home, Tate gets upset over doing homework while Rachel is off and missing. Marlena tries to calm him down, telling him he’s done a lot to help search for Rachel. And the police are working hard to find her. Then he admits that this is just one more stressor on top of Sophia’s pregnancy. Marlena tells him she’s there for him, just as much as his father.
He opens up a bit about how hard doing the right thing with Sophia keeps hurting things with Holly. Seeing the sonogram of their baby was like a miracle of life, but he’s sad they didn’t mean for any of it to happen. And Holly was upset when she ran into them going over the sonogram. Marlena asks if he’s talked to Holly since, which is her cue to show up at the door.
She just heard about Rachel and wastes no time in hugging him. Marlena heads out to give them time alone. He thanks her for coming, especially after their run-in yesterday. She assures him that Rachel is more important than that, and Tate insists that his sister doesn’t negate their problems.
Holly admits the connection Brady and Sophia have hurts, so he tries assuring her that they want to give the baby up for adoption. Holly just hopes Sophia’s parents will go along with it, but she just came to support him with Rachel. They start trying to think up posts and hashtags to get attention and get more people looking for Rachel.
There’s a knock on the door and an upset Sophia just rushes in, tearfully telling Tate her mom won’t agree to the adoption as she hugs Tate.
Marlena gets to the Pub to meet with Steve and fills him in on Rachel’s disappearance. She needs to get hold of John. Brady needs his father. Steve says he already tried to contact Shane after the Catharina news and he shot Steve down. John’s “in a very delicate spot” and contacting him could put his life in peril.
In the show’s final moments, Tate tells Sophia about Rachel, who apologizes for interrupting the crisis. She offers to go, but Holly does instead. Steve tells Marlena that he’ll do everything he can to find Rachel. Marlena thanks him and asks if he can get any info at all on John. She’s imagining the worst. He’ll try, but can’t make promises. She just misses him so much.
Shawn tells Belle that the other little girl will be just fine, just banged up. He then apologizes for scaring Belle. She heads to get takeout for the family, and he goes back to the station.
Brady shows up at the Bistro. He was walking home and just wanted to see Ava. She asks what she can do for him. He tried putting a brave face on, but he’s spiraling, feeling guilty that he and Kristen failed Rachel to the point it got to this point. Ava pulls him in for a hug, reassuring him that it’ll be OK.
Kristen pulls Rachel’s phone out of the desk drawer, and sees a photo of the two of them on it. She starts crying, wondering where Rachel went. We then see Rachel in a room with furniture covered in sheets. She pulls out her stuffed snake. “Well, Seymour, we finally made it.”
